Environmental Technology
From the deep ocean to the biosphere, environmental technology is behind the devices engineered to study, monitor, protect, and enhance the environment. In the ocean, it's used to explore and predict climate change, the impact of oil drilling and commercial fishing, and even to restore natural marine habitats. At the ground level, it's used to detect and monitor contamination levels in soil and drinking water, and to monitor and eliminate hazardous waste.
Environmental technology spans every field and industry that intersects the environment. It's creating recycling systems, cleaner-burning fuel, stricter emissions tests to reduce pollution, public transportation systems, and federal policies that prohibit and regulate environmental toxins. It's harnessing renewable energy from hydrogen, biomass, wind, and solar power, resulting in more efficient and economical uses of energy. Environmental technology is also helping wildlife scientists track endangered species.
Environmental technicians work in a variety of fields, from agriculture and engineering to government and regulatory affairs. They often find themselves in jobs where the conservation of an environment, and the health and safety of those who live in it, depend on their expertise.
