An environmental compliance technician helps develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure health and safety. You will investigate a range of environmental settings, using technology to test air and water quality, for example. You’ll also interpret data, determine health and environmental risks, and develop solutions to comply with federal environmental regulations.
You may work both in the field and in a lab with environmental scientists to collect and transport hazardous waste materials, set up sampling instrumentation, and test samples.
Tasks may include:
- Collecting wastewater samples for analysis
- Transporting hazardous waste to processing location
- Responding to chemical spill incidents
- Segregating, sorting, and packaging hazardous waste in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards
- Writing reports summarizing diagnosis and analysis
Degree Requirements:
Minimum two-year degree in environmental technology or related field.

- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of industrial wastewater regulations
