Environmental Technician

As an environmental technician, you will operate, maintain, and repair environmental testing equipment. You may also monitor emissions and air quality, collect air and/or material samples, measure airflow, and analyze the data you’ve collected to determine actual and potential health risks.

You’ll work with environmental scientists in the field to inspect equipment, evaluate equipment operation, and maintain and operate equipment during sampling and field research.

Tasks may include:
  • Collecting air or materials samples of environmental conditions
  • Taking airflow measurements
  • Testing, operating, and repairing equipment
  • Evaluating air and water pollution sources
  • Operating a microcomputer to verify data

Degree Requirements:
Minimum two-year degree in environmental technology or related field

Skills Required:
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of industrial wastewater and air quality regulations
