Product Safety Technician

As a product safety technician, you'll assist with the testing of products to ensure that the technology used complies with regulations and safety standards. You'll test for mechanical, electrical, and environmental effectiveness, identifying exposed mechanisms that might cause injury to a user, for example.

You'll work closely with product safety engineers and other safety specialists. You'll help to maintain a safe work environment by following and documenting federal and company safety regulations.

Tasks may include:
  • Setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment used in product safety tests
  • Collecting and analyzing data from tests, and preparing reports from the data
  • Helping to evaluate potential health hazards or damage which could result from misuse of products
  • Assisting with investigations into the causes of accidents, injuries, and illness resulting from product use
  • Documenting all test results, recommendations, and safety procedures

Degree Requirements:
Minimum two-year degree in manufacturing technology or related field

Skills Required:
  • Good math skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Mechanical aptitude and good hand-eye coordination
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals
