Equipment/Computer Technician

As an aerospace equipment technician, you'll construct, install, and repair highly specialized equipment for aircrafts or space vehicles. This equipment includes radar, navigation, and missile-control systems. You'll also assist in various stages of production, from research to model building to maintenance.

You'll work closely with engineers, scientists, and software engineers. You'll work on the aircraft itself and also in the laboratory, where you'll assist with research and development on new technologies and products.

Tasks may include:
  • Installing, inspecting, adjusting, and repairing avionics (aviation electronics) equipment
  • Assembling components, such as switches and electrical controls, and connecting them to radio systems, instruments, and in-flight refueling systems
  • Installing components and systems according to precise blueprints and diagrams
  • Setting up and operating test equipment for electronic and electrical systems
  • Machine shop and laboratory maintenance

Degree Requirements:
Vocational training or related on-the-job training and experience

Skills Required:
  • Strong background in math and science
  • Knowledge of computers, electronics, and engineering and technology
  • Troubleshooting ability
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with others
