Fabrication involves manufacturing technological features on a micro scale. As a fabrication technician, you'll work in a microtechnology or nanotechnology manufacturing facility where miniaturized technological products are made. Some examples include microscopic biomechanical systems, electromechanical silicon sensors, and other microdevices.
You'll set up, operate, and maintain equipment, as well as monitor operations. You’ll also provide technical support for electronic design techniques and/or fabrication processes.
Tasks may include:
- Preparing, operating, and maintaining equipment
- Ordering equipment and parts
- Monitoring production processes
- Documenting production activities
Degree Requirements:
Minimum two-year degree in microtechnology, nanotechnology, or related field
Skills Required:
- Mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of physics and applied sciences
- Experience operating fabrication equipment
- Solid understanding of microtechnology
