Quality Control Technician

As a quality control technician in biotechnology, you'll analyze raw materials and products to make sure they meet federal regulations for required levels of quality. For example, you might inspect equipment for contamination caused by potentially hazardous materials. Or you might test raw materials to see if they've degraded or decomposed in storage.

You'll work closely with quality control engineers, safety specialists, researchers, and bioengineers. You'll usually work in a lab or manufacturing plant.

Tasks may include:
  • Performing tests and sampling procedures before, during, and after the manufacturing process
  • Documenting data from test procedures and reporting any abnormalities
  • Updating and preparing documentation of operating procedures
  • Helping with equipment maintenance when needed
  • Providing expertise in quality control and operating procedures to co-workers

Degree Requirements:
Minimum two-year degree in biotechnology or related field


Skills Required:
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
